A TRIBUTE TO TERRY 1999-2013

Guide Dog Terry was born on 24 October 1999.  He spent a year in Hemel Hempstead with puppy walkers Karen and Peter McCarthy, before going in to training.  He loved water and was very interested in their paddling pool.

After training, Terry was allocated to Ken Weinling.  They bonded immediately, which was a great help as their first trainer injured her back and they had to carry on with another trainer.

Terry became a fully qualified Guide Dog with Ken in October 2001, when he was two years old.

As well as guiding Ken, Terry attended many talks at schools, clubs, and fundraising events, supporting the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association Hillingdon Branch, of which Ken was Chairman for many years.  Terry was extremely popular, especially with children.

In 2005 after the Hillingdon Branch closed, Terry remained a trusted partner to Ken, continuing to attend talks raising funds that were shared between Guide Dogs and disabled children, with Ken’s newly formed group, Friends of Ken Weinling.

Terry worked for 9 years before being retired.  He carried on living with Ken and his family until he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2011.  He was given 3 months to live, but no one told Terry that.  He lived until the 25 March 2013, when the cancer became very aggressive.

All who knew him will miss Terry, and he will never be forgotten.
